Does your pet suffer from arthritis? Are they struggling to get up the stairs? Getting comfortable at rest appears to be a problem? As our pets age they may experience pain and discomfort in the muscles or joints, and because pets in nature are pleasing they tend to show only subtle symptoms of pain that can be missed. At River Mill Animal Hospital, we want to get them running again! The good news for your pet is that we can now treat these conditions with the latest technology in veterinary medicine called laser therapy. Laser therapy is a non-invasive way to reduce pain and inflammation to those trouble some areas while restoring mobility. Light energy enters the damage cells and stimulates inter-cellular activity. It also increases blood flow and circulation to the treatment area, this reduces pain and speeds recovery of damaged cells. Once the cells recover the healing process is complete.

Treatments are tailored to each pet’s individual needs. During a treatment session, the pet reclines on a table or may even lie on a blanket on the floor, this painless treatment lasts on average of 3 minutes. Your pet may experience a comfortable sensation at the point of application. You will be allowed to be present for these sessions, you and your pet will be provided special goggles to protect your eyes. Most patients see positive results within one to three treatments. While acute conditions can subside within one session, chronic conditions may be managed with regular monthly treatments. There are no known negative side effects.

In addition to helping manage arthritis pain, laser therapy has numerous other applications including:

  • Hot spots

  • Ear infections

  • Dermatitis

  • Gingivitis

  • Bladder infections

  • Insect bites

  • Post-operative sites

  • Anal gland disease

And so much more!

We are thrilled to bring this technology to River Mill Animal Hospital. If your pet is showing any of the above signs, please call today and our doctor will be happy to discuss a specific laser treatment plan with you.
